Composition: Each film coated tablet contains 5mg Desloratadine Properties: DesToratadine, an active metabolite of Loratadine, is a non-sedating antihistamine. It blocks peripheral effects of histamine released during allergic reactions, decreases symptoms of allergic reactions (nasal stuffihess, red swollen eyes), and decreases pruritus. Pharmacokinetics: Desloratadine is well absorbed after oral administration. It is extensively metabolized to 3-hydroxydesloratadine, an active metabolite, about 82 -87% bound to plasma proteins. The mean elimination half-life is 27 hours and it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier. Indications: New Loratadine is indicated for the relief of the nasal and non-nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial). New Loratadine is indicated also for the management of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Contra-indications: Patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug Pregnancy and lactation Children under the age of 12 years Side-effects: It may cause pharyngitis, dry mouth, fatigue, nausea, and rarely elevated liver enzymes. Precautions: New Loratadine should be used with caution in patients with renal and hepatic impairment and in elderly patients. It may rarely cause drowsiness so patients should avoia driving or operating machinery. Drug Interactions: Avoid alcohol or other CNS depressants during treatment with New Loratadine. Plasma concentrations of New Loratadine are increased after the concomitant administration of erythromycin or ketoconazole. Dosage and Administration: New Cbratadine can be taken with or without food as follows: Adults and children above 12 years 5mg once daily. In patients with liver or renal impairment, a starting dose of one tablet 5mg every other day is recommended. Presentation: A box of 20 film coated tablets |
