Composition: Each tablet contains 120 mg Fexofenadine hydrochloride. Each tablet contains 180 mg Fexofenadine hydrochloride. Properties: Fexofenadine, an active metabolite of terfenadine, is a non-sedating antihistamine; it doesn't possess significant sedative or antimuscarinic actions. Pharmacokinetics: Fexofenadine is rapidly absorbed after oral administration with peak plasma concentrations being reached in 2-3 hours. About 5% of total dose is metabolized mostly by the intestinal mucosa with only 0.5 to 1.5% of dose undergoing hepatic biotransformation and elimination half-life of about 14 hours. Fexofenadine excretion is mainly in the faeces with only 10% being present in the urine and it doesn't appear to cross the blood-brain barrier. Indications: Fexofenadine is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis such as rhino'rrhoea, itchy nose, red eyes and urticaria. Contraindications: Patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug. Side Effect: It may cause nausea, dyspepsia, fatigue, palpitations. Precautions: Fexofenadina should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when Fexofenadine is used to a nursing woman. Fexofenadine should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment. Drug Interactions: Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium hydroxide have reduced the absorption of Fexofenadine, Plasma concentrations of Fexofenadine are increased after the concomitant administration of erythromydn or Ketoconazole.
