NORMOTEN is Atenolo, a cardio - selective Beta-1-adrenoceptor blocking agent.
COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains : 50 / lOOmg Atenolol.
PROPERTIES:
NORMOTEN is a cardio - selective beta-blocker, which reduces cardiac rate and contractility as it is effective in the treatment of hypertension, with a marked effect in eliminating or reducing the symptoms ofAngine pectoris, and without membrane stabilizing or intrinsic sympathomimetic ( partial agonist) activities.
INDICATIONS:
* Control of hypertension.
* Prophylaxis and treatment of Angino-pectoris.
PRECAUTIONS:
NORMOTEN must be used with caution in patients suffering from renal failure, asthmatic patients, patients suffering from poor cardiac reserve. It should be noted that its use may camouflage the tachycardia of hypoglyce-mia in diabetic patients. As with all the beta-blockers it's usage should not be discontinued abruptly, specially in patients suffering from ischemic heart disease.Usage during pregnancy or lactation is the physician's definite decision who can judge the benefits against possible risks.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Rare side effects may occur, but they are usually attributed to it's pharmacological action, such as, coldness of the extremities, bradycardia, muscular fatigue, skin rashes, sleep disturbance, dry eyes. All the symptoms disappear by reducing the dosage or at the withdrawal of the drug, or it s discontinuation. CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Atenolol is contra-indicated in patients with :
Second or third degree heart block
Cardiogenic shock
Cardiac failure
Sinus bradicardia DRUG INTERACTIONS:

srhythmic agents * ClonidTn in like drugs or corticosteroides
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
100 or 50mg daily . It is usefully sufficient for the treatment of hypertension or angina pectoris, or as prescriped by the physician .
