COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains : Diltiazem Hydrochlonde 60mg Each capsule contains:Diltiazem Hydrochloride 90mg Retard Diltiazem Hydrochloride 120mg Retard
PROPERTIES:
Diltiazem is a benzothiazepin, calcium-channel blocker, with peripheral and coronary vasodilator properties .It lowers blood pressure and has some effect on cardiac conduction.
INDICATIONS:
Adizem is used for the prophylaxis and treatment of angina pectons and hypertension .
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Sick sinus syndrome
Second or third-degree atrioventricular blocker
Marked bradycardia
Left ventricular failure
Pregnancy and breast feeding
SIDE EFFECTS:
Adizem is generally well tolerated, and may cause : headache, ankle oedema, dizziness, hypotension, flushing, rashes, transient eleation in liver enzyme values, and atrioventricular block .
PRECAUTIONS:
It should be used with caution in patients with first degree of atrioventricular
block .The doses should be reduced in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function and in elderly patients.
The dose should not be increased if the heart rate drops below 50 beats per minute.
Sudden withdrawal of Adizem might cause an exacerbation of angina.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
- Diltiazem increases the effect of heart inhibitor Hellotane.
- Diltiazem increases the contencration ofDigoxin in the plasma.
- Diltiazem increases the effect of Beta inhibitors.
- Cimetidine increases Diltiazem concentration in the plasma.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Tablets should be swallowed with fluid without chewing Angina pectons: the initial dose is 60mg 3 times daily, increased if necessary to 360mg daily up to 480mg daily .
Hypertinsion : 60 -120 mg twice daily increased as required to a maximum of 360mg daily.
