COMPOSITION:
Each suppository contains: Metodopramide Hydrochloride 10 mg Each suppository contains: Metodopramide Hydrochloride 20 mg
PROPERTIES:
Metodopramide is an antiemetic it enhances the motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract without affecting the volume and acidity of the gastric secretion and increases gastric peristalsis, leading to accelerated gastric emptying. It relaxes tone of the pyloric sphincter. Metocloprardide possesses antiemetic properties by blocking the dopamine D2 receptor in central nervous system.
INDICATIONS:
- Barkabromide is used in the treatment of : nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy or postsurgery and gastrointestinal disorders, gastro-oesophageal reflux and dyspepsia
- Barkabromide is used in the symptomatic treatment of diabetic gastric stasis.
- Barkabromide is used as adjunct treatment in gastric and duodenal ulcer.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Gastro-intestinal hemorrhage, obstruction, perforation. Phaeochromocytoma. Hypersensitivity to the drug.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Drowsiness, vertigo, headache, hypersensitivity reactions, rarely galactorrhoea, and extrapyramidal effects such as facial spasm and torticolis particularly in children even after a single dose. These reactions usually disappear spontaneously and completely on discontinuation of treatment.
PRECAUTIONS:
- Doses should be reduced in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
- Barkabromide suppositories should not be used in infants. DRUG INTERACTIONS:
- Caution should be taken in patients taking other drugs can also cause extrapyramidal reactions, such as phenothiaziens.
- Anticholineroicagents antagonize the gastro-intestinal effects of Barkabromide.
- Barkabromide decrease or increase the absorption of drug from the stomach as digo-xin, cimetidine and aspirin.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
The total daily dose should not exceed 0.5 Suppositories should be taken before each meal.
Adults:
1 or 2 suppositories of 20 mg per 24 hours
Children over 20 kg: 0.5 mg / kg per day, (for 20 kg: 1/2 suppository of 10 mg twice daily) |
