Composition: Each Ent.Ctd. tablet contains: Bisacodyl 5mg. Propeties: Bisacodyl is a contact stimulant laxative, administered either orally or rectally, which acts directly on the colonic mucosa to produce normal peristalsis:' Bisacodyl is very poorly absorbed, if at all, in the small intestine following oral administration, or the large intestine following rectal administration. On contact with the mucosa or submucosal plexus of the large intestine, Bisacodyl stimulates sensory nerve endings to produce parasympathetic reflexes resulting in increased peristaiti contractions of the colon. It has also ben shown to promote fluid and ion accumulation in the colon, which increases the laxative effect. A bowel movement is usually produced approximately 6 hours after oral administration and approximately 15 minutes to I hour after rectal administration. providing satisfactory cleansing of the bowel which may. under certain circumstances, obviate the need for colonic irrigation.
Indications: Barkalaxine is useful in all kinds of constipation: - Chronic constipation in aged patients. - Patients with Iconstipation resulting, From prolonged bed-lying. - Pre and post surgical operation. - Preparation for barium enema. - Preparation of colon and procto-sigmoid scopy. Contraindications: Stimulant laxatives, such as bisacodyl, are contraindicated for patients with acute surgical abdomen, appendicitis, rectal bleeding, gastroenteritis, or intestinal obstruction. Warnings and precautions: Use of bisacodyl is not recommended when abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting are present. Log-term administration of Bisacodyl is not recommended in the treatmeent of chronic constipation. This product should not be used beyond 7 days unles deemed necessary. Rectal bleeding or failure to have a bowel movement after Bisacodyl use may indicated a serious condition. If this occurs, the patient should discontinue use of the product. This and all medication should be kept out of the reach of children. Pregnancy : category B: Although no teratogenic effects have been detected in animals or human infants following use of the drug during pregnancy, the manufacturers recommended that bisacodyl, like other medicines, should not be used during pregnancy, especially the fir trimester, unless the expected benefit is thought to outweigh any possible risk to the fetus. Adverse drug reactions: The process of restoring normal bowel function by use of a laxative may result in some abdominal discomfort. Overdosage: There are no specife antidotes that are required to be administered in the event of overdosage: however, supportive care may be required in order toprevent dehydration and or electrolyte imbalance. Dosage and administration: - Adults and children 12 years of age and over: 2 tablets taken at bed time in order for aneffect in the nextmorning or V2 hour beforebreakfast for an effect after 5 hours. The dose may be increased up to 4 tablets ifnecessary. - Children(6-12) years of age: 1 tablet daily or 5 mg - suppository once daily. Do not chew or crush tablets Do not administer tablets within 1 hour after taking milk or an antacid. - It should not be given to children under 6 years. Presentation: -Boxes 20 Ent.Ctd 5mg.
