BENEXAM is PIROXICAM, a new NSAD.
COMPOSITION:
Each supp. contains : 20mg ofPiroxicam. Each capsule, contains : lOmeofPiroxicam. Each capsule fort contains : 20mg of Piroxicam.
PROPE'RTIES '
BENEXAM has analgesic, anti-inflammatory & antipyretic properties, it is rapidly absorbed - (thus has a fast onset of action) - and it dose not act through the stimulation of the pituitary and adrenal glands .
INDICATIONS:
Chronic and acute rheumatic arthritis, joint & muscular pain, inflammatory bon conditions, post operative, traumatic & back pain, jouty attacks, toothache.
PRECAUTIONS:
Elderly patients and patients with renal or hepatic failure should be closely monitored, patients who had previously shown sensitivity towards the drug or Aspirin & other NSADs.
SIDE EFFECTS:
-Skin rashs
-knee joint odema
-Hemoglobin, hematocrit & platelet count decrease.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Acute hepatic & renal failure, active gastric & duodenal ulcers, hyper sensitivity towards the drug, children under fifteen, pregnancy and lactation.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
As PIROXICAM enhances the effect of: hepann, oral anti-coagulants, anti-diabetic sulfonamides, lithium concentration it is not advised to use them in combination with.
- PIROXICAM may decrease the effects of diuretics, therefor care should be taken while using them together.
- It is not advised to combine PIROXICAM with Aspirin and its derivatives.
- Care should be taken while combining Cemetidine with PIROXICAM as it enhances PIROXICAM's effect.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
In rheumatic arthritis, and post-operative pain : 20mg once daily (the dose could be doubled in severe cases).
- For bone pain treatment: 40mg daily .
- Acute gout attacks : 40mg, for two days then 20mg, for three days .
PRESENTATIONS:
Supp.: boxes of 10 suppositories.
Cap. : boxes of 20 caps.of lOmg.
