Composition:
Each tablet contains: 15mg or 30mg or 45mg pioglitazone
Properties:           (as the base)
PIOGLITAZONE is a thiazolidinedione oral antidiabetic agent that acts primary by decreasing insulin resistance, it improves sensitiviy to insulin in muscle and adipose tissue and inhibits  hepatic   gluconeogenesis, PIOGLITAZONE improves glycemic control while reducing circulating insulin levels.
PIOGLITAZONE decreases triglycerides, and increases HDL-cholesterol in patients with lipid abnormalities.
Indications:
PIOGLITAZONE is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes PIOGLITAZONE is also used for use in combination with sulfonylurea, metfonnin or insulin.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to this product or any of ifs componet Patients with type 1 daibetes Daibetic ketosis Pregnancy and lactation
Side effects:
My cause: headache, sinusitis, myalgia, pharyngitis, mild to moderate hypoglycemia and decrease in hemoglobin and hematocrit.
Preacautions:
Patients receiving PIOGLITAZONE in combination with insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents may at risk for hypoglycemia, and a reduction in the dose of the concomitant agent may be necessary. PIOGLITAZONE should be used with caution in patients with edema FBG and HbAic measurements should be performed periodically to monitor Glycemic control and the therapeutic response to PIOGLITAZONE Liver enzyme monitoing is recommended prior to initiation of therapy with PIOGLITAZONE in all patients and periodically thereafter.
Drug interactions:
Administration of PIOGLITAZONE with an oral contraceptive containing ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone reduces the plasma concentrations of both hormones which could result in loss of contraception.
Dosage and administration:
PIOGLITAZONE should be taken once daily without regard to meals 15mg or 30mg once daily and can be increased up to 45mg once daily. The dose should not exceed 45mg once daily
pioglitazone in combination with sulfonylurea, metformin and insulin may be initiated at 15mg or 30mg once daily, and the dose of these drugs should be decreased gradually if patient reports hypoglycemia.
